About the Role
The Head of English provides academic, pedagogical and people leadership across the English faculty. This senior role is responsible for:
- Leading high-quality, contemporary teaching and learning across Years 7–12 English
- Building a collaborative, high-performing team culture grounded in the School’s values
- Overseeing curriculum design, documentation, implementation and review
- Monitoring student learning data (including NAPLAN and VCE) to inform teaching practice
- Mentoring and supporting staff, including induction, coaching, appraisal and performance development
- Promoting innovative pedagogical approaches and effective use of digital technologies
- Managing departmental resources, budgets and annual planning
- Ensuring assessment and reporting processes meet School, State and National standards
- Contributing to whole-school initiatives through the Teaching and Learning Team
- Supporting student wellbeing and engagement within the English learning context
- Representing the Department at internal and external events
As a senior representative of the School, the Head of English is expected to participate in School events, co-curricular activities and community initiatives.
About You
You are a passionate educator and proven leader with the vision and capability to inspire excellence in English teaching across all year levels.
You will have:
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications and current VIT registration
- Significant experience teaching English to VCE level
- A record of exemplary classroom practice
- Superior leadership, communication and organisational skills
- The ability to mentor, motivate and support teaching staff
- Strong curriculum expertise and familiarity with ACARA, Victorian Curriculum and VCE English
- A collaborative, reflective and growth-oriented approach
- A genuine commitment to student wellbeing and holistic education
- Alignment with the values and ethos of Anglican education
